About The Book:
The book discusses the emerging field of media semiotics, a branch of semiotics as well as Media studies. There are papers on films, advertisements and news. Basically, all these papers are modified for the present work; they are either published somewhere in English/Gujarati or presented in some conference or seminars. The details will be provided. For all the papers, semiotics is used as a tool for interpretation, but the approach varies in various papers. The papers are properly formatted and modified for the present publication.
Though the field of media-semiotics is emerging in India, it has well established roots in the works of European and American scholars like Ferdinand De Saussure, Roland Barthes, Jacques Lacan, etc.
The book would be helpful for the students of Linguistics, Semiotics, Literature, Art History, Media Studies, and Film Studies. It covers a large spectrum of ideas and areas of discussion, but the discussion centers from an Indian perspective.
