About the Book:
Zinc Sulfide (ZnS), also known as “Zincblende” or “Wurtzite” based on its structure in the pure form, has many applications in the present society including the latest technology as phosphorescence phosphor, scintillation detectors. It has also high antioxidant and antifungal properties. Many researches have been undertaken for new developments in the fields related to the synthesis, characterization, validation and authentication of the ZnS nano materials. This work is a tryst to bring everyone in the world of physical techniques which are being involved in synthesis of the ZnS in a very simple and cost effective approach, more specifically by the Chemical Bath Deposition (CBD) and characterization with amazing results.

Materials with reduced particle sizes to nanometer scale are gaining unique noble properties over those in their bulk states in optical, electrical and photoelectronic properties. The basic reason is that the particles of the materials in nano scale exhibit quantum confinement effects. Of the three classes of nanoparticles, quantum dots which exists nearly in zero dimension under quantum confinement effect with particle diameters l-10 nm is the centre of attraction of the current nanoscience research for different technological applications. The physical reason is that materials under quantum confinement effect possess a number of allowed energy states at this lowest dimension within the band gaps which under suitable photo-excitation can generate unique noble properties.

In the present investigation, the synthesis of Poly Vinyl Alcohol (PVA) embedded ZnS matrix nano-composite films are carried out by CBD technique at different molarities, substrate temperatures and film thickness. Study of the nanostructures and several photoconductivity properties of the films under illumination of white lights of different intensities in air under different experimental conditions are carried out and discovered that the material is suitable for efficient solar photovoltaic cells, photo detectors and quantum computers under suitable conditions.

By manipulating the atoms and molecules in the matrix ZnS films at different molarities, substrate temperatures and film thickness and on exposure to different intensity of white lights in air under suitable applied biases applied fields and ambient temperatures, new photoluminescence and photo-electronic properties will be expected far better than those in their bulk states.
